CBS
Renewed: 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, CSI, Elementary, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, Unforgettable
Cancelled: Bad Teacher, The Crazy Ones, Friends With Better Lives, Hostages, Intelligence, We Are Men
New: Battle Creek, CSI: Cyber, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Scorpion, Stalker
My Take: You would think now that How I Met Your Mother has come to an end (and the network hasn’t made a decision on spinoff series- How I Met Your Dad), CBS wouldn’t cancel that many comedies. I’m going to miss The Crazy Ones (mostly because I like having Buffy on my TV) and am wondering if another NCIS spinoff is a good idea. Hooray for more Big Brother and for Josh Duhamel coming to TV in Battle Creek.
NBC
Renewed: About a Boy, America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior, The Biggest Loser, The Blacklist, Celebrity Apprentice, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Grimm, Hannibal, Hollywood Game Night, Law & Order: SVU, Parenthood, Parks and Recreation, The Voice
Cancelled: Believe, Community, Crisis, Dracula, Growing Up Fisher, Ironside, The Michael J. Fox Show, Revolution, Sean Saves the World, Welcome to the Family
New: Allegiance, A to Z, A.D., Aquarius, Bad Judge, Constantine, Emerald City, Gracepoint, Heroes Reborn, Marry Me, Mission Control, The Mysteries Of Laura, Odyssey, One Big Happy, State of Affairs, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Utopia, Wayward Pines
My Take: Hallelujah for more Parenthood! It was up in the air there for a while (longest. weekend. of. my. life), but the Bravermans will be back for one final season of 13 episodes. Parks and Rec is getting the same treatment, and I think it goes without saying that Community fans would have appreciated the same. I’m happy that About a Boy (Friday Night Lights & Parenthood creator!) and Chicago PD (Brooke Davis!) were renewed because they’re on my list of shows to check out. In addition to Heroes making a comeback a la 24, new NBC show highlights include Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) returning to TV in State of Affairs and fellow Doc Addison (Kate Walsh) starring in Bad Judge.
FOX
Renewed: American Idol, Bob’s Burgers, Bones, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Following, Glee, Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef Junior, The Mindy Project, New Girl, The Simpsons, Sleepy Hollow, So You Think You Can Dance
Cancelled: Almost Human, Dads, Enlisted, Surviving Jack, Rake, Raising Hope, Us & Them (it still doesn’t have an airdate for its premiere), The X Factor
New: Bordertown, Empire, Gotham, Red Band Society, Mulaney, Last Man On Earth, Weird Loners
My Take: Glee fans (apparently they do still exist) can expect one final season to premiere in 2015, while popular comedies New Girl, The Mindy Project and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are back with full episode orders. The Simpsons and Family Guy both continue to air forever, while American Idol gets another chance to try to regain their audience. Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) returns to FOX in Gotham– the Batman prequel– and Red Band Society brings Octavia Spencer to TV in a drama about teens who meet because they’re patients in the pediatric wing of Ocean Park Hospital in Los Angeles.
ABC
Renewed: America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Castle, Dancing With the Stars, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Last Man Standing, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Middle, Mistresses, Modern Family, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Rookie Blue, Resurrection, Revenge, Scandal, Shark Tank, The Taste, Wipeout, 20/20
Cancelled: The Assets, Back in the Game, Betrayal, Killer Women, Lucky 7, Mind Games, Mixology, The Neighbors, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Suburgatory, Super Fun Night, Trophy Wife
New: American Crime, Black-Ish, Cristela, Forever, Fresh Off the Boat, Galavant, How to Get Away With Murder, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Selfie, The Whispers
My Take: Shonda Rhimes– the mastermind behind Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal– continues her ABC takeover with new series How to Get Away with Murder, meaning we will now spend time in Shondaland from 8pm to 11pm on Thursdays. I’m also thrilled Nashville, Revenge (did you see that finale?!) and Once Upon A Time (FROZEN! ELSA! THE POSSIBILITIES OF BUILDING A SNOWMAN!) are coming back, but mourn the lost of Suburgatory. I’m also taking bets on whether new comedy Selfie is cancelled as fast as Super Fun Night was.
The CW
Renewed: The 100, America’s Next Top Model, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, The Originals, Reign, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Cancelled: The Carrie Diaries, Nikita, Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People
New: The Flash, Jane the Virgin, The Messengers, iZombie
My Take: While I never got around to watching Star-Crossed or The Tomorrow People, I’ve already expressed my feelings about young Carrie Bradshaw hanging up her designer handbag. Hart of Dixie returns and is one of the only shows without a supernatural element left on the network, while The Vampire Diaries and it’s spinoff The Originals remain on top of the ratings. I’m looking forward to giving Arrow and Reign a chance, and wonder how much longer Supernatural (which is entering it’s 10th season) is going to air (FYI it’s ratings are as good as ever). I have to give iZombie a chance because Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is behind it, and it stars Clay Evans (Robert Buckley) from One Tree Hill. The same goes for The Messangers, which stars Quinn James- Evans (Shantel VanSanten) and the girl Nate was hooking up with in the last season of Gossip Girl (OTH & GG foreva).
