I love you, Derek Jeter. I always have, and I always will.

That being said, I didn’t take the news of your retirement very well. I understand you’re getting older, but I just never thought this day would come. However, this announcement has given me the perfect opportunity to reflect on what makes you (in my opinion) one of the greatest people in the entire world.

Let’s start with the obvious, you’re kind of a talented baseball player.

You’re a great teammate, and bring some bromance to baseball.

It’s your 11th year as the Yankees captain because you’re an inspirational leader.

You have a sense of humor.

You’re charitable, and even have your own foundation.

You’re close with your family.

(Yes, I included your ex-girlfriend Minka Kelly, because I think she’s the one you should finally settle down with. Just imagine how gorgeous your babies would be).

And most importantly, you do it all with that beautiful, beautiful smile.

There’s less than 2 months until Opening Day, and just the thought of Derek leaving my TV screen makes me tear up. Consider becoming one of those athletes turned actors so I could see your pretty face all the time? Or a manager so I can still see you in your uniform? I know you want to own a team, but I just don’t think that’s enough screen time.
