Reality TV is proving to be a trend that isn’t going anywhere.
It was recently announced that Nicole Richie is returning to reality TV— years after her time on The Simple Life with ex- bestie Paris Hilton— in a new VH1 show “#CandidlyNicole.” The show, which is based off of her mini series on AOL with the same name, will feature her discussing and exploring the hilarious situations/idea on her twitter feed (if you haven’t read her tweets, check them out ASAP).
Another reality TV vet, Tori Spelling, who has been all over the news in the past month because of rumors her husband Dean cheated on her, is about to start filming her fourth reality show. “True Tori” will air on Lifetime at the end of April and be one the first reality shows to air in almost real-time. Dean, who has spend the last few months in rehab, will be featured and the two will be working through their marriage issues (if this ends in divorce, there will be tears shed).
Tori and Dean aren’t the first and most likely won’t be the last couple documenting their relationship on camera. Eric & Jesse: Game On recently returned for a second season on E! and is funnier than ever. The former Denver Bronco and future New York Jet and his country singing wife are expecting their first child and will keep you laughing and smiling with their weird antics. Giuliana and Bill is also back on E!, and the E! News anchor and her businessman husband are tackling trying to have another kid via surrogate, and their many, many jobs. Both of these couples seem stronger than ever, and I’m hoping it stays that way and there isn’t a “True Jessie” or “True G” special following their marriage issues. I’m hoping Married to Jonas is back on TV soon and we get a closer look at Kevin and Dani’s new daughter, Alena. (What I’m basically saying is if you get married and have a kid, you will get a show on E!).
Other reality shows to add to your guilty pleasure list include MTV’s The Challenge, which returns on April 10th. This show is the Real World meets Survivor, and guarantees drama. Teen Mom 2 is another one to never miss, and the relationship issues look like their heating up. Back on E!, Total Divas has proved more entertaining than I imagined, and I’d be lying if I said I changed the channel when it came on… I’m also reluctant to admit I’ve seen more episodes of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills than most (best worst reality show ever). On Oxygen, I’ve tuned in to the last couple episodes of Chasing Maria Menounos and think her, her crazy Greek parents and her longterm boyfriend make for an entertaining half an hour.
As for the Kardashians, you know I’m a fan. I try to keep up with all of them and watch two of the sisters take a city. And in case you haven’t heard, they have two new series— Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons and Dash Dolls— and another season of KUWTK coming in the fall.
Long story short, I like my reality TV. And the crazy, dramatic and totally terrible world exists outside of the Housewives (though it’s fun to watch them ruin their lives sometimes, too).
