Sparkles, babies and capes, oh my! 2014 Oscar Trends

After hours of watching Ryan Seacrest interview stars, Giuliana Rancic and friends talk about the stars Ryan interviewed, a 4 hour award show and multiple picture galleries on People, E! and USWeekly, you usually start to notice some trends. And if for some ridiculous reason you didn’t watch all 10 hours of Oscar footage, I’ve got you covered.

Trend: Strapless Dresses

Jennifer Lawrence: The Best Supporting Actress Nominee continue her partnership with Dior last night, and wore this red strapless gown. Jennifer wore red at her first Oscars, and it’s safe to say it’s a good color for her.

Idina Menzel: Hours before she blew us away with her performance of “Let It Go” from Frozen, Idina channeled her other famous character, and looked gorgeous in a wicked green.

Sandra Bullock: Sandra, a Best Actress Nominee, rocked the carpet in a beautiful navy blue.

Amy Adams: Amy and Sandra may have both lost for Best Actress, but I’m sure one of them will win on Fashion Police tonight when Joan Rivers and friends compare the similar navy dresses.

Trend: Sparkly White, Sliver or Pale Dresses

Cate Blanchett: Not only did Cate take home the Academy Award for Best Actress, she also wins for best sparkly dress last night (if my opinion matters).

Angelina Jolie: Angie was one of the only people rocking long sleeves on the carpet, but one of many who sparkled in sliver.

Jennifer Garner: Channeling her inner flapper, Jennifer worked the red carpet alone. But don’t worry, her husband Ben Affleck joined her at the Vanity Fair after party (I may or may not have refreshed my twitter feed for a Ben sighting all night).

Naomi Watts: I don’t think this picture does this dress justice, but when they zoomed in on the red carpet, Naomi sparkled (literally and figuratively).

Jessica Biel: Jessica reminds me of Queen Elsa in Frozen in this gown, which I obviously love, but I’m sick of seeing her sans Justin Timberlake.

Jenna Dewan Tatum: One of the only stars who threw in some feathers last night, Jenna looked almost as pretty as husband Channing.

Trend: Capes

Kate Hudson: Kate looked her best last night, and I can only hope she brought her fierceness to the after-party and congratulated her How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costar on his big win.

Jada Pinkett Smith: This elegant pink gown fit Jada perfectly and showed off her softer side on the red carpet.

Lady Gaga: I’m not sure why Lady Gaga was at the Oscars last night, but she managed to look pretty while still throwing in some Gaga-flair.

Trend: Ready to Pop Baby Bumps

Esla Pataky: Chris Hemsworth’s wife looks like she’s about to burst any minute in this turquoise dress.

Olivia Wilde: Olivia’s due on May 4th (may the 4th be with her) and was glowing in her gorgeous black gown.

Kerry Washington: Kerry is going to pop within the next few months, but that didn’t stop her from looking beautiful in her dark purple dress and burgundy lips (the color of Olivia Pope’s favorite wine, no?).

Trend: White Tux

Matthew McConaughey: One of last night’s big winners, Matthew looked like a winner in his light colored tux. His wife Camila is rocking the cape-trend, and I think this cute duo could take home best dressed couple.

Jared Leto: I don’t know if the Dallas Buyers Club stars both wore white on purpose, but regardless, it was a good choice because Jared went home with Best Actor in a Supporting Role, while Matthew (above) took Lead Actor.

Ryan Seacrest: It only makes sense that the man who interviews the stars, dresses like the stars.
