My name is Sarah Hearon and I’ve been neglecting my inner pop culture/TV addict… but don’t worry— I’m back! But seriously, this is my official apology for letting my student/sports fan side get the better of me. I am excited to announce I started another semester at OSU and got an internship (yay!), and even more excited to announce I got to travel to the land of Friday Night Lights (Texas) to see THE Ohio State Buckeyes win the National Championship (DOUBLE YAY).
Now back to all things TV, pop culture and social media. In an attempt to cover all things I missed commenting on, I put together a list of things I’m loving and hating in 2015.
LOVE: Jane The Virgin: First of all, I’m SO excited a CW show finally got the love it deserved! Gina Rodriguez winning a Globe for Jane the Virgin marks the first win for the network (Leighton Meester and Sophia Bush got robbed). Second of all, this show is so fun to watch. Seriously.
LOVE: The new season of Shameless: The Gallaghers are back in more ways than one! The new season of Shameless premiered on Showtime last week and it’s good to have TV’s craziest family back on the small screen. The show also got picked up for another season!
LOVE TO HATE: Whitney: Lifetime is at it again. The new Whitney Houston biopic premiered over the weekend, and let’s just say it wasn’t… great. First things first, it should have been called Bobby instead of Whitney, because the movie focused on the singer’s ex Bobby Brown more than Whitney herself, and it did not give Whitney’s accomplishments enough attention.
HATE: Jennifer Aniston’s Oscar Snub: I really thought Jennifer Aniston was going get her first Oscar nom this year for Cake. I haven’t seen the movie, but I’m mad that anyone messed with my favorite friend.
LOVE: Jennifer Aniston’s Fashion Choices: Jen is making the Academy regret their decision to leave her off the Best Actress list with her latest fashion choices. Killing. It.
HATE: Amy Adams’s Oscar Snub: You don’t win the Golden Globe and not get nominated for the Oscar. It’s like, against the rules of feminism.
LOVE: Ohio State Social Media Takeover: I may or may not have mentioned that Ohio State WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, and seeing all of the tweets/memes about the game and Cardale Jones press conference makes me one happy buckeye.
LOVE: The Bachelor: Farmer Chris’s season of The Bachelor is everything I dreamed it would be and more. You’ve got your crazies– both Ashleys and Mackenzie– and you’ve got your obvious favorites– Britt, Kaitlyn and Whitney. I’m calling Whitney as the winner because she got the first pick-you-up-and-spin-you-around-kiss (I have a real talent for these things). PS: Someone really needs to start a petition to get Jimmy Kimmel to replace Chris Harrison as the host ASAP.
HATE: Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray Break-Up: Speaking of The Bachelor, last season’s Bachelorette couple has called it quits and my heart hurts. Andi and Josh seemed perfect (and so in love like two days before they announced their split). This is why I have trust issues.
LOVE: Girlfriend’s Guide To Divorce: Bravo’s first scripted show is pretty much like all of their “non-scripted” (quotes because duh) reality shows, but it’s better. Lisa from House and Cooper from Private Practice traded in their medical degrees for divorce drama and created your new favorite guilty pleasure (think Mistresses meets Sex and the City).
HATE: Parenthood ending: There is only two episodes left of NBC’s most underrated drama, and it’s rare for a day to go by without me thinking about (and crying over) saying goodbye to the Bravermans.
LOVE: This Globe Fashion: The proof is in the pictures.
HATE: This Globe Fashion: The proof is in the pictures x2. (WHY OLIVIA POPE, WHY?!).
LOVE: Off The Map With Shannen and Holly: I’m a sucker for any reality show with a 90210 alum, and this one is no different. Shannen Doherty and her BFF and Charmed costar Holly Marie Combs are road-tripping through the South and the show is so cute/fun it ALMOST makes me want to road-trip to Texas again. Bonus points because Shannen is promoting the show AKA 90210 is all over the news and we can pretend like it’s 1993 again.
LOVE: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski: I’m not going to pretend I watched The Critics Choice Awards, but I did watch this moment with Emily and John on a loop. These two just moved up on my celebrity couple list. Too. Cute.
HATE TO LOVE: FOX’s Grease Live: I don’t want to be excited about another live TV musical, but I can’t help myself. Julianne Hough is going to be the perfect Sandy, and Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo is genius… All doubters should rewatch High School Musical 1-3. Sidenote: do you think the director will consider adding her song Sneaker Night into the show? The Pink Ladies would kill that number.
LOVE: Selena Gomez and Zedd: TGSGIMO (Thank God Selena Gomez Is Moving On– duh). After years of torturing us with her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, Selena seems to be making moves and spending a lot of time with DJ Zedd. The two have posted Instagrams of each other, and we can only hope this new relationship is what her heart wants (PS: is that damn song not stuck in your head 24/7 or is it just me?).
LOVE TO HATE: Bruce Jenner “Becoming A Woman”: I’ve lost count of how many people have asked me about Bruce becoming a woman. It was all fun and games at first, but this story is getting so old and is no fun without a season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians on the air to explain. This clearly edited and ridiculous magazine cover did give me a good laugh though.
LOVE: This new picture of the Kardashian Klan supporting Papa Bruce. Can E! stop trying to make Christina Milian: Turned Up happen and give us more KK Hamptons? Kthanksbye.
HATE: The new Fashion Police: Speaking of E!, Kathy Griffin is no Joan Rivers. The new Fashion Police premiered last week and proved the show should have quit while it was ahead. Kathy doesn’t have chemistry with the cast and her jokes just aren’t funny. I even miss George. This Brad dude is such a knockoff.
LOVE: The SAGs, Super Bowl, Grammys and Oscars are all less than a month away. So many blog posts to come, my friends. XOXO, Gossip Sarah.
